Former Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Samson Osagie, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for the appointment and subsequent reconfirmation of Hon. Henry Idahagbon as Federal Commissioner representing Edo State at the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).
Osagie in a statement described the development as a clear demonstration of confidence in Idahagbon’s competence, experience and ability to contribute meaningfully to the effective functioning of the Federal Civil Service Commission.
According to him, the decision of the executive and the National Assembly reflects a careful assessment of character and performance. Recall that Idahagbon’s confirmation process initially suffered a setback during Senate committee screening following allegations of corruption raised by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District.
The allegation temporarily stalled the smooth screening of the nominee and generated widespread political reactions within and outside Edo State. However, the objection by Senator Oshiomhole reportedly faced strong backlash, particularly among Edo South political leaders and public affairs observers, who questioned both the timing and the procedure adopted in raising the allegation at the screening stage.
The Edo State Government, under Governor Monday Okpebholo, has expressed readiness to reposition the housing sector of the State to ensure affordable housing for low-income earners, civil and public servants.
This was made known during a Press brirfing by the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Hon. Yakubu Musa (JP), during an inspection tour of the de-reserved 250-hectares at Ogba forest reserve in Ugogogin community in Oredo Local Government Area.
The site is situated near Evbuodia, Ulemon, Okua, and Umegbe communities. Partnership with the Ministry of Works is secured for road access and infrastructure development.
Also during the tour, the team visited Emotan Gardens, Phases 1 and 2, a housing project with 68 units on 69 hectares of land, where the Commissioner noted a vast underutilized land and stated that government will look into it, addressing concerns on property ownership and land management.
Hon. Musa further assured that government is prioritizing the development of the housing sector to meet Edo citizens’ needs, and will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure every citizen has a good life. He expressed confidence that the project would boost Edo’s housing sector and improve residents’ lives through relevant policies and programs.
Present during the tour was Arc. Valerie Osaretin Daubry, Federal Controller, Edo Field Headquarters, Federal Ministry of Lands and Housing, Surveyor General of the State, Directors from the Ministry of Lands and Housing, Edo State Development and Property Corporation, among others.

Dr Samson R Osagie Former Attorney General, Edo State
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja today, 5th December, 2025, has dismissed the suit filed under the Fundamental Rights Enforcement by the Organising Secretary of the Edo State Chapter of the beleaguered Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor, against the Edo State Government, IGP, DSS, Governor, and the Attorney General of Edo State.
Mr. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor had sued the Edo State Government, Governor, and Attorney General of Edo State, along with two others, for breach of his fundamental rights to liberty, expression, and fair hearing. This followed a letter written to him by the Edo State former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson R. Osagie, on the 8th of June, 2025, demanding that Mr. Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor retract his malicious publication against the Governor and Commissioners in the Government of Edo State.
He also accused the Inspector General of Police and the State Security Services of sending him an invitation to make clarifications on certain libelous publications made by him, including accusing the Edo State Governor of purchasing the judgments of courts that validated the Governor’s election.
The suit, taken out on his behalf by Osazee Oluwole-Uzzi Esq (also a former Attorney General of Edo State), had Dr. Samson R. Osagie representing the Governor, Attorney General of Edo State, and the Edo State Government.
In the judgment, the court held that the letter written to the Applicant (Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor) by the Former Attorney General of Edo State on behalf of the Governor and Edo State Government, and the invitation extended to him by the State Security Service, did not constitute an infringement of his fundamental rights.
The court held that Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor, as a citizen of Nigeria, is bound to honor invitations sent to him by security agencies, whose duty is not only to prosecute criminals but also to prevent the breakdown of law and order. As such, the Applicant did not prove with sufficient facts that his rights were being breached or likely to be breached by the actions of the respondents, which he has complained about.
In his argument before the Court at the hearing, Counsel to the Edo State Government, the Governor, and Attorney General of Edo State, Dr. Samson R. Osagie, canvassed the point that the Applicant’s rights to freedom of expression do not extend to making false publications against the Governor and functionaries of the Edo State Government, while his Counsel argued that the comments credited to the Applicant were not criminal in nature but made in exercise of his right to freedom of speech.
Consequently, the court dismissed the suit for lacking merit and made no order as to costs.
Former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Edo State, Dr. Samson Osagie, has commended Hon. Chief Billy Osawaru, Member representing Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon Constituency, for his remarkable contribution to education and the overall well-being of the people.

The University of Benin has opened its portal for newly admitted students (100 Level and 200 Level Direct Entry) to pay school charges for the 2025/2026 session.
In a statement signed by the Registrar, A. Bobola, the university clarified that there will be no increase in approved charges for all categories of students.
To pay school charges, students are advised to go to https://portal.uniben.edu , log in with their User ID (Student ID) and Password, click on PAYMENT menu, select school charges, click PROCESS PAYMENT Button, and follow REMITA Payment instructions.
The statement further added that all enqury should be Channelled to the Information Communication and Technology Unit of the School
Dr. Samson Osagie, former Attorney General of Edo State, has threatened legal action against Airpeace airlin over undignified treatment and non delivery of luggage .
In a letter written on his behalf by his Solicitors, C. O Agbe & Co, Dr Osagie is demanding compensation from Air Peace to the tune of a ₦100 million in damages for the iil treatment, undignified treatment, inconvenience and financial losses which he suffered as a result of the action of the airline between 19th and 20th october when he traveled to Accra Ghana for the African Bar Association Annual General Conference.
He noted that the airline’s failure to deliver his luggage on flight P4775 from Lagos to Accra on October 19, 2025 and the attendant consequences of such failure on his mission in Accra Ghana caused him huge inconveniences and losses
In said letter to Air Peace, dated October 29th, Dr. Osagie’s lawyers, C. O Agbe & Co, expressed disappointment with the airline’s handling of the situation, stating that their actions were undignified and caused significant financial Loss and inconvinience to their client.
The letter references the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulation and Section 55(1) and (2) of the Civil Aviation Act 2022, which entitle passengers to compensation for discomfort or injury.
Air Peace has been given 7 days to respond to meet with the demand for compensation or face legal action.
The complaints has sparked concerns about airline accountability and passenger rights in Nigeria, highlighting the need for airlines to prioritise passenger welfare and adhere to regulations.

The long-running controversy surrounding the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) has finally come to an end as Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, declared the project restored to its original vision, the Benin Royal Museum, conceived to honour the rich heritage of the Benin Kingdom.
Governor Okpebholo made the announcement during a historic visit by the revered Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, to the Government House in Benin City. The visit drew a distinguished gathering of traditional rulers, political leaders, senior civil servants, and members of the public who filled the New Festival Hall to capacity.
Describing the event as a “defining moment of unity” between the state government and the revered Benin monarchy, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed that the partnership between both institutions remains the foundation of Edo’s pride and identity.
“The issue of MOWAA is over. It will be returned to its rightful status as the Benin Royal Museum,” Governor Okpebholo declared. He assured that he would present the matter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who he described as a strong supporter of culture and a friend of the Benin Palace.
Ewuare II commended the governor for his stance, describing him as a divinely chosen leader destined to bring peace and prosperity to Edo State. The Monarch recalled his thank-you tour of Esan land shortly after his coronation, when he witnessed a rare celestial sign, the sun and moon appearing together, which he said symbolized that greatness would one day emerge from Esan land.
The Benin Royal Museum is expected to house repatriated artifacts looted during the 1897 British invasion of Benin. Governor Okpebholo has constituted a six-man Special Committee, headed by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, to interface with international donors, partners, and trustees of MOWAA to ascertain its true legal and operational status
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Ude, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), to head the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology.
The nomination, announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday’s plenary session, aims to strengthen the government and drive development in key sectors.
Dr. Ude, currently the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, is expected to succeed Uche Nnaji, who resigned last month.
The Senate has also referred Dr. Ude’s nomination to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration and screening.
As Nigeria’s Science, Innovation and Technology Minister, Dr. Ude’s leadership will be crucial in shaping the country’s science and technology landscape.
