Eid-El-Mubarak: Edo Attorney General Sends Greetings to Muslims

The Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson Osagie has extended warm Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Muslim faithfuls in the state.

In his message, Dr. Osagie thanked God for the opportunity to celebrate this noble occasion, praying that the spirit of sacrifice and devotion which Eid-el-Kabir represents inspires Muslims to strive for excellence daily and that God Almighty accepts their sacrifices, granting them peace, prosperity, and joy.

While noting that Eid-el-Kabir embodies values of compassion, empathy, and kindness, Dr. Osagie emphasized the importance of these values in guiding interactions among individuals in their daily lives.

The Attorney General wished Muslims a successful Eid-el-Kabir celebration and prayed for good health, happiness, and prosperity for all, expressing his goodwill and Eid Mubarak to the Muslim community in Edo State.

National Minimum standards on the Administration of Criminal Justice delivered to Edo State Ministry of Justice

Dr Samson Osagie,Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Edo State , has emphasized that the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) is designed to ensure a smooth and efficient justice delivery process in Nigeria.

The Attorney General made this remark during the presentation of the National Minimum Standards Documents on the Implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law by the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, led by Professor Akinseye-George, SAN.

Dr. Osagie assured that the document would guide the administration of criminal justice, streamlining the process and ensuring swift dispensation of justice across the 36 states of the Federation. He also noted that the document would complement the criminal justice system in Edo State and urged all legal practitioners to obtain a copy to enhance justice administration and expressed his commitment to ensuring that all state counsel and adjudicators have access to the document.

He also expressed joy that the recent ACJA roundtable discussion in Abuja has yielded tangible results, culminating in the development of the National Minimum Standards Documents, and thanked all stakeholders involved.

On her part,Mrs. Esosa Osula, Secretary of the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee (ACJMC), Edo State, stated that the presentation is aimed to promote effective ACJL implementation and alternative sentencing practices aligned with national and international best practices.

Edo State Govt. Secures affirmation of conviction for Armed Robbery Convict at the Supreme Court

…….As Edo State Attorney General vows to diligently prosecute criminals

In its determination to continue to combat crimes and criminality in Edo State, the Edo State government through the office of the Honourable Attorney General, Ministry of Justice, Edo State has secured the affirmation of a sentence of death imposed by both the Edo State High Court and court of appeal on one Sunday Osakpolor by the Supreme Court.

In a judgment delivered today (23rd May,2025) by Hon Justice Mohammed Baba Idris on behalf of a panel of the Supreme Court, it was held that the Appeal by the appellant(Sunday Osakpolor) lacks merit while the concurrent judgment of the Edo State High Court and Court of appeal Benin convicting him for the offence of armed robbery was upheld.

At the Supreme Court, the appeal was argued by the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Edo State Dr Samson Osagie, who argued that the lower courts were right in convicting the appellant on the basis of the direct evidences adduced by the prosecution and urged the court to dismissed the appeal and uphold the judgment of the lower courts, to which which the apex agreed.

In a similar development, the the Edo State Government acting through Oshirekun Otokurin, Esq, Assistant Director Ministry of Justice and Mrs Bridget Okonofua, Principal State Counsel, Edo State Ministry of Justice secured the conviction of Taiwo Omorede and four others in Charge No. B/CD/163c/2023, who were charged with the offences of armed robbery, Conspiracy, assault occasioning harm and malicious damage, with the first, second and third defendants sentenced to death by hanging while the fourth and fifth defendants were convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment respectively.

Delivering judgement in the case the presiding Judge, Hon Justice Imadegbelo held that the evidence of the prosecution witnesses placed the Defendants right in the scene of the crimes and that the Defendants couldn’t substantiate the alibi which they claim.

These cases and many more that has been successfully prosecuted by the Edo State Government through the office of the Attorney General demonstrates the determination of the Edo State Government under Governor Monday Okpebholo to rid the state of all criminal elements and make the state safe for citizens and investors alike.

Edo Attorney General Reaffirms Commitment to Justice, Security

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Edo State, Dr. Samson Osagie has reiterated the dedication of the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration to the pursuit of justice, with a strong focus on protecting the rights of victims and ensuring societal accountability.

Dr. Osagie made this known during a courtesy visit by the Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief Bisi Idaomi, Esq., alongside her counterpart from Plateau State, Mrs. Caroline Dafu.

The visit was prompted by a distressing viral video that showed a 10-year-old girl from Plateau State being brutally assaulted with an iron by a woman in Edo

Responding to the incident, Dr. Osagie stated that the Edo State Government, through the Ministry of Justice, is collaborating closely with the police and the Ministry of Women Affairs to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice.

He stressed that the administration remains committed to upholding the rule of law and making examples of such cases to deter future offences.

Chief Bisi Idaomi confirmed that the assailant has been apprehended and arraigned in court.

She added that her ministry is actively pursuing further legal action to ensure the child receives justice.

In her remarks, Mrs. Caroline Dafu expressed gratitude to the Edo State Government for its swift response and lauded Dr. Osagie’s personal involvement in the case.

She also commended the state’s broader commitment to maintaining a secure and just environment for all.
